“I am grateful for the journey,” says Sanjana Vij, who will mark her screen debut with ‘Doctor G’ – Beauty Pageants – Indiatimes
And we finally got hold of this busy bee who is running a packed schedule these days for an exclusive interview to know more about her movie experience, her journey from pageants to the big screen, working with Ayushmann Khurrana, future projects and more. Excerpts:
How do you feel now that you are all set to venture into a new world of fanfare?
I am ecstatic about working towards my goals I had envisioned years ago. But, it’s thrilling and nerve-wracking at the same time. There’s so much to learn and no specific way to go about it. So, one must always be on their toes.
Has acting always been your passion?
I wouldn’t say it was a childhood dream, but I have always wanted to perform for as long as I remember. My parents and teachers always encouraged me to participate in various activities. At school, we were never forced to focus only on studies; we were always pushed to be more dynamic. So I started developing my love for acting and dancing at a young age but never thought I’d pursue it as a career. Then, in college, when I started doing theatre, I realised I wanted to be an actor.
How was your journey so far following your reign at
When I look back, I am grateful for the journey I’ve been through. I started working shortly after the pageant. I was getting enough work to sustain myself in a city like Mumbai. I shot many advertisements, music videos, and brand campaigns. I auditioned pretty often, and I am thankful to the team. My biggest learning is that acting is just like any other job, which needs constant effort. So you have to prioritise it in your routine. Practising every day is the only way forward. Also, most things are beyond our control, so we need to learn to let go.
While we have seen groove in a few music albums, your feature in Doctor G will show us a new side of you; how do you feel about your debut performance?
I think I justified the character. I am very excited to see myself on screen and want to cherish the moment. There’s always a scope for improvement, and it’s just the beginning for me. I will always take the graph up.
Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the popular, versatile and talented actors in the industry and bagging an opportunity to work alongside him is excellent. How was your experience?
Besides being a great actor, he is also a wonderful human being. He is very humble. His energy is so positive. I remember when we were rehearsing our scene, I was quite nervous. However, he was extremely patient with me. He told me that behind the scenes is always chaotic, and you must find your moment. As a performer, you will be nervous most of the time, but you have to accept it and work with it.
There is no doubt that the audience is in for a treat, but being a part of the film, what is your perspective of Doctor G?
Doctor G is a medical campus comedy-drama. It’s a fun-filled journey of an aspiring orthopaedic (played by Ayushmann Khurana) who turns gynaecologist and the struggles he faces being the only male student in a classroom full of women. The film is high on humour. The trailer has been really well received by the audience. I’m sure people will enjoy the movie, especially the youth.
Well, this is just the beginning for the stunning queen, who is currently also awaiting the release of a web show which is now under production and is shooting for yet another web series that will soon hit the floors.
