NEW DELHI: The Sharad Pawar-led NCP on Thursday passed a resolution against the rebel faction led by Ajit Pawar during a meeting in the national capital.
The Sharad Pawar group has also suspended Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare and SR Kohli from the NCP for siding with Ajit Pawar.
Earlier, the Ajit faction had appointed Tatkare as the Maharashtra unit president and “sacked” Jayant Patil.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Sharad Pawar asserted that he is the NCP president.
This comes amid reports that Ajit Pawar had declared himself as the NCP chief in his petition to the Election Commission on June 30, two days before he officially joined the Maharashtra government.
After the meeting, Sharad Pawar said that whatever his group needs to say, it will say it before the Election Commission.
“Today’s meeting helped boost our morale … I am the president of NCP,” he said.
Hitting back at nephew Ajit Pawar’s dig over his age, Sharad Pawar said that it does not matter whether he is 82 or 92 as he is still effective.
Meanwhile, NCP leader PC Chacko said that the party led by Sharad Pawar is still intact and they are all with the octogenarian leader.
“Sharad Pawar was elected national president … we don’t take seriously claims of someone being national president,” P Chacko said.
Meanwhile, the Ajit Pawar-led group had earlier said that the NCP working committee meeting called by Sharad Pawar in Delhi “has no legal sanctity”.
In a surprise coup last week, Ajit Pawar and 8 other NCP MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government after breaking away from the Sharad Pawar-led party.
