NEW DELHI: The Indian team has been hit by an outbreak of Covid-19 infections. TOI has learned that eight members of the squad have tested positive on Wednesday.
Three of them are players picked to play the series while four are from the support staff and one is a standby player.
The Indian team assembled in Ahmedabad on Monday to play the three-match ODI series against West Indies which is due to start on February 6. According to sources, the infected players are Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer. Other than the players, a driver, a security personnel, a physical trainer and a masseuse have been infected.

Navdeep Saini, who is with the team as a standby player, has also tested positive for the virus.
The national selectors have added Mayank Agarwal to the Indian squad.
Designated vice-captain KL Rahul is yet to join the team since he was exempted from playing the first game as he has a wedding to attend.
The entire team has been put in mandatory isolation. The members were supposed to undergo three-day quarantine upon reaching Ahmedabad which was supposed to end on Wednesday. However, they will have to remain in isolation for at least two days more. Tests will be conducted every day now. The West Indies squad arrived in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The BCCI has said it’s flexible with the scheduling of the series. There could be a chance of pushing the series by a couple of days if need be. However, if no more positive cases come out then the series may start as per schedule on Sunday. “As of now, the BCCI medical team is monitoring the situation and is yet to confirm all positive cases,” a source said.
