NEW DELHI: Indian sportspersons, former and current, took to social media on Tuesday to extend their wishes on the 77th Independence Day.

Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Mithali Raj, PV Sindhu, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuvraj Singh, and several other sportspersons took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to wish countrymen a happy Independence Day.
Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “I love my India. Wishing all my fellow Indians across the world a very happy Independence Day.”

Indian captain Rohit Sharma posted: “The tricolour means more than words can ever convey. Happy Independence Day.”

Former Indian women’s team captain Mithali Raj wrote: “From every corner of our glorious nation, we come together as one to celebrate the essence of being Indian. Happy Independence Day, everyone! May our tri-colour always fly high. Jai Hind!

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu extended her wishes: “On this Independence Day, I send warm wishes to all my fellow Indians. Raising the tricolor high on the podium multiple times has been my greatest honor. The sound of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ never fails to give me goosebumps, reminding us of the pride we all share in representing our beautiful and incredibly diverse country. Former captain Virat Kohli wished everyone a happy Independence Day.

Suryakumar Yadav also extended his wishes and wrote, “A nation like no other, an honour comparable to none. Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day! May our country continue to rise and shine and may we do our best to continue to contribute to its glory!”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah wished the nation and wrote,” Wishing everyone a Happy #IndependenceDay! Today we celebrate the freedom, diversity and progress of our nation. Let’s continue to build a bright and prosperous future for our country and keep the tricolour flying high!”

“Wishing every Indian a very Happy 77th Independence Day. Jai Hind,” BCCI tweeted.

Former India batter Yuvraj Singh also posted a video and tweeted, “May our tricolour forever fly high, respecting and remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought for our Independence.”

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja tweeted, “Jai ho #IndependenceDay.”

Our every step should ensure that we are contributing to the Nation,” former India spinner Harbhajan Singh posted on X.

Former India batter Suresh Raina said everyone should cherish the spirit of unity in diversity and “honour the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.”
