World No. 3 Jessica Pegula secured her third career victory by winning the Canadian Open, her second WTA 1000 title. She defeated Liudmila Samsonova 6-1, 6-0 in the final. Pegula became the first American in a decade to win the Canadian Open, previously achieved by Serena Williams in 2013. She is also the first American to win in Montreal since Monica Seles in 1998.
