Manipur: ‘Manipur burning due to hate politics’: Rahul Gandhi tears into BJP, hails Bharat Jodo | Karnataka Election News – Times of India
BENGALURU: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that hate politics propagated by BJP caused the recent unrest in Manipur and said he had embarked on ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ to oppose this very brand of politics.
“Manipur is burning and people are dying, but PM (Narendra) Modi and home minister Amit Shah are behaving as if they have nothing to do with it. It is the outcome of hate politics. Today, if Manipur is burning, it is because of hate politics. We took out ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ against this hate politics. And this is our ideology,” Rahul said while addressing an election rally in Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
While Rahul attacked BJP on the issues of hate politics and corruption, AICC general secretary Priyanka Vadra also raised the campaign pitch against the saffron party, alleging that the BJP government in the state deliberately attempted to weaken the Karnataka Milk Federation’s Nandini milk brand “so that it could be merged with Gujarat’s Amul”.
In his speech at a poll meeting in Pulikeshinagar assembly segment in Bengaluru, Rahul reiterated his charges against BJP and sought vote for his party so that Congress can come to power and put an end to hate politics and corruption that he said was rampant under the saffron party’s governance in the state.
“The civil contractors had complained to him (PM Modi) about 40% kickbacks (in Karnataka), but the Prime Minister has not said anything about it. He has not said anything about his party’s rule in the past four years and has not said a word about the next five years,” Rahul said.
He further said: “He has not spelt out what his party intends to do for unemployed youths, women, farmers and labourers from unorganised sectors. On the other hand, I would like to say that if Congress comes to power, we will implement all the promises that we have made in the first Cabinet meeting.”
Mentioning the alleged life threat to Chittapur Congress candidate Priyank Kharge, son of the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge, and his family, Rahul said Modi was keeping mum about it. “Your candidate has spoken about killing our leader. You have to reply on this,” he said referring to Modi.
At an election rally in Bengaluru South, Priyanka said: “They created an artificial milk scarcity in Karnataka by bringing down KMF’s daily milk production from 90 lakh litres to 70 lakh litres. It is a deliberate attempt to weaken Nandini in order to merge it with Amul. This will hit the livelihoods of about one crore people.”
