MS Dhoni can coach CSK: Ex-India selector thrashes Hemang Badani rumours
Former India selector Kris Srikkanth has slammed the rumours linking Hemang Badani with the Chennai Super Kings head coach job. Srikkanth said MS Dhoni himself is enough and can work as the CSK head coach for the coming season.
After the departure of Stephen Fleming from his role at CSK, various names have been linked with the hot seat at the five-time IPL champions with Badani’s name also being in the mix. The former Indian cricketer has been the head coach at Delhi Capitals for the last two seasons but failed to get them to the playoffs spot.
With the DC management now changing for the next two years with JSW coming back to the helm, changes are expected. The first one is the appointment of Sourav Ganguly as the head coach, with Yuvraj Singh working as his assistant.
When Srikkanth heard the name of Badani, he quickly dismissed the former cricketer from the role, saying he didn’t have the credentials to take the role.
“There is no way Hemang Badani should be CSK’s head coach. He didn’t do anything in DC. I don’t know why CSK should go all-out for him. He is nothing special as a coach. When you have Dhoni, why do you even need someone else as coach? Dhoni himself is enough as head coach,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.
The former India selector recommended the name of former KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit is a good option if Dhoni wants an Indian coach at the helm.
“If Dhoni is preferring an Indian coach, then I would go for Chandrakant Pandit. He’s a good guy and has won trophies. But CSK should go for an Indian option. Either the coach must have been a great international player or achieved big as a coach at the domestic or IPL level,” said Srikkanth.
‘TAKE YOUR TIME CSK’
Srikkanth said that there is no need for Chennai to rush with their choice of who should be the next coach.
“It’s fine that CSK are taking their time. There is no necessity to make the decision in a hurry. The auction will only be in December, so there’s enough time. So they shouldn’t rush it at all and should think calmly to make the right decision,” said Srikkanth.
The next auction will be in December this year, giving CSK enough time to make a call.
