SA vs IND: ‘Ideal batter’ Rinku Singh should be at number six for India, says Jacques Kallis
Jacques Kallis feels that Rinku Singh is the ideal batter for India to play the number six role for the side heading into the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rinku has made a significant impact on the Indian T20I team since his debut in August 2023 against Ireland. His performances have been so remarkable that he’s now considered a strong contender for the finisher’s role in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Rinku’s ability to score quickly and efficiently is evident from his impressive strike rate of 188 after 10 T20Is, with an average of 60 runs. His prowess was highlighted during the T20I series against Australia, where he top-scored in the penultimate match and continued his exceptional form throughout the series.
Ahead of the first T20I, which was incidentally washed out, Kallis spoke to Star Sports and hailed Rinku as a class act. The legendary all-rounder also said that the southpaw has been playing some good cricketing shots.
Kallis went on to say that India should continue to use Rinku as their number six batter for the side and should be given the opportunity to continue there.
“He’s a class act. You know, as we’ve seen over the last few months, what he’s done for India. Finishing games. It’s not just silly cricket. It’s a real good cricketing shots when it needs to be. He can attack when he needs to do that towards the back end of an innings.”
So you know the ideal batter to be batting at number six. Along with the rest, the team, that’s a formidable finishing to an innings. In case one doesn’t come off, you know, you’ve got a few others that can step up and do it. So for me, Rinku should be the number six and given a proper opportunity.
