India’s star T20 batter, Suryakumar Yadav, has been doing the hard yards to make a comeback after his ankle injury. The Mumbai Indians batter gave a much-needed update on his recovery process via an Instagram post.

The 30-year-old took to his social media platform to post his recovery journey video, in which initially, he could be seen having difficulty while walking post his surgery. However, Suryakumar can be finally seen running and doing intense training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. His hard work was evident as he would be raring to make a comeback after the injury hiatus just in time ahead of IPL 2024.

Suryakumar underwent groin surgery in Munich, Germany on January 17 for sports hernia. This was his 2nd surgery lately after he suffered an ankle injury during India’s 3-match T20I series against South Africa in December.

“I want to thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes for my health, and I am happy to tell you all that I will be back very soon,” Suryakumar said in a post on ‘X’ as he updated the fans about his surgery.

WHY SURYAKUMAR UNDERWENT SURGERY?

Before the surgery, Suryakumar was undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru due to an ankle injury and continued his rehabilitation post-surgery. Before suffering the injury, he captained India’s T20I side against Australia in the 5-match series and led the team to an emphatic series win by 4-1. In Hardik Pandya’s absence, Suryakumar was named as India’s captain in the 3-match T20I series against South Africa as well.

He led the team from the front with 36 ball-56 in the 2nd T20I, followed by a blazing 100 off 56 balls in the 3rd T20I in Johannesburg. However, the No. 1 ranked T20I batter in the ICC rankings suffered an ankle injury while fielding. India levelled the series against hosts South Africa 1-1 but Suryakumar suffered a major setback due to the injury. He missed out on playing the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan in January.

SURYA THE SUPPORTER

During his injury lay-off, the batter continued supporting team India and posted their winning moments on his Instagram stories. He was also elated with his Mumbai teammates, Sarfaraz Khan’s maiden India call-up and his brother, Musheer Khan’s century against New Zealand in the U19 World Cup.

Suryakumar is expected to make a return to competitive cricket during the IPL 2024 for the Mumbai Indians. The 5-time champions will square off against Gujarat Titans on March 24 in Ahmedabad. The clash would be a mouth-watering encounter as Hardik would be leading Mumbai Indians for the first time and that too against his former franchise, Gujarat.
