The heartwarming news of Thailand’s Prime Minister contender Paetongtarn Shinawatra giving birth to a baby boy just days ahead of the polls is going viral on social media.
Daughter of the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Paetongtarn named her child Prutthasin Sooksawas.
“I am very happy to have my seventh grandchild … All 7 grandchildren were born while I was abroad. I ask for permission to go back and raise my grandchildren, because I will be 74 years old this July,” Thaksin wrote on social media.
The Shinawatras have a loyal support base among rural voters in the north and northeast, according to The Guardian.
The nickname of the baby boy is Thasin.
“Hello. My name is Phrithasin Suksawat. Nickname is “Thasin”. Thank you for all your support. In a few days, mother is waiting to be strong before going to meet the media,” the 36 year old has posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile the new mom Paetongtarn, who is popularly called as Ung Ing by her supporters, is among the top two choices for the Prime Minister post according to recent polls. Many credit this popularity to her famous surname, Shinawatra.
Women leaders have always been a role model for millions of young girls the way they balance their work life, commitment to the nation and personal life.
In 2018 when New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern gave birth to a baby girl, she became one of the first such leaders in three decades to have done so. In 1990, Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto gave birth while in power.
