Former India captain MS Dhoni was in attendance to watch Carlos Alcaraz defeat Alexander Zverev on Wednesday to reach the semi-final of US Open 2023.

Dhoni has been away from the cricket pitch since leading Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title a few months ago and has been constantly seen enjoying his free time.

On Wednesday, Dhoni was seen in attendance to watch the World No.1 take on Zverev in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

The match took place on a Wednesday and saw Alcaraz, a 19-year-old Spanish prodigy, outperform Zverev with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. This victory was particularly noteworthy as it marked Alcaraz’s progression into the semi-finals of the last major tournament of 2023.

US Open Day 10: Wrap

Zverev, who had previously reached the finals of the 2020 US Open, was unable to secure a win against the young Spaniard. In their previous encounters, Alcaraz and Zverev had split their four meetings, making this fifth encounter a decisive one.

Alcaraz’s journey in the US Open has been impressive. He had previously won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2022, defeating Casper Ruud in the final. This victory had propelled him to the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career. Now, with his recent triumph over Zverev, Alcaraz is set to face Daniil Medvedev in an intriguing clash featuring the last two Flushing Meadows champions.

Alcaraz did have a big name in attendance on Wednesday to watch him as Dhoni was present at the court. In a video shared by the broadcasters, Dhoni can be seen in the background behinfd Alcaraz during a break in play.

It does seem that Dhoni is a fan of Alcaraz as he was also present last year during the US Open as well.
