NEW DELHI: INDIA or the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance – that is the new front announced by the opposition parties on Tuesday as they gathered in Bengaluru for the two-day brainstorming session for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The newly formed alliance, which is effectively a revamped version of the Congress-led UPA, will have an 11-member coordination committee soon to decide on all important issues, including seat sharing and the PM face for the front.

What is INDIA?
INDIA is an acronym for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, which is an opposition front announced by the leaders of 26 parties to take on the BJP in next year’s elections.
Who coined the acronym INDIA?
The name was proposed by Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, and was unanimously adopted by the 26 parties at the Bengaluru meeting.
However, some sources said the name was suggested by TMC supremo and West Bengal chief
minister Mamata Banerjee and there was a lot of discussion on the full form of the term,
INDIA.
What is the main objectives of the INDIA alliance?
The key objectives of INDIA are:
* Defeat the BJP in the 2024 general elections
* Protect the Constitution of India
* Promote inclusive development
* Uphold the secular values of India
Who will be the leader of the group?
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said a committee of 11 members will be set up for coordination, and a convenor will be selected at the next opposition meeting in Mumbai. Kharge also said a secretariat will also be set up in Delhi for campaign management of the alliance and specific committees will be formed for separate issues. He said the dates for the Mumbai meeting will be announced soon.
While Kharge evaded a direct reply on who would be the face of the new alliance, earlier in his opening remarks at the meeting, he said the Congress is not interested in power or the post of Prime Minister.
Who are part of the alliance?
As many as 26 opposition parties are part of INDIA, including Congress, TMC, DMK, AAP, JD(U), RJD, JMM, NCP (Sharad Pawar), Shiv Sena (UBT), SP, NC, PDP, CPM, CPI, RLD, MDMK, Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi (KMDK), VCK, RSP, CPI-ML (Liberation), Forward Bloc, IUML, Kerala Congress (Joseph), Kerala Congress (Mani), Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), and the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK).
