Kenyan-born Norah Jeruto, playing for Kazakhstan bagged gold in women’s steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships 2022. It was a powerful performance by the athlete who led the race from start to finish and set a championship record of 8min 53.02sec for the victory at Hayward Field. With this, she clinched to the third-fastest time ever and more than five seconds better than previous winner Beatrice Chepkoech’s mark in Doha in 2019. Ethiopians Werkuha Getachew and Mekides Abebe finished second and third respectively. “At the starting line, I was afraid of my friends from Ethiopia. They are also champions like me so I was scared of them. I tried my best to win the race and it was not easy. It was tough,” Jeruto was quoted saying in reports.
