New Delhi: In a first such cross continent initiative, 18 MPs from political parties in the US and Europe have formed an Inter Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) to adopt a tough stance against the Chinese Communist Party for its moves on Hong Kong and the handling of the Covid outbreak in early stages.

IPAC wants to focus on safeguarding international rules-based order, upholding human rights, promoting trade fairness, complementary security strategies and protecting national sovereignty and integrity, ET has learnt. These are issues which have been the focus of several countries regarding China over the past few years.

The IPAC comprises US Senators Marco Rubio and Robert Menendez, the European Parliament’s Reinhard Bütikofer and Iain Duncan Smith, a member of the British Parliament and former leader of the Conservative Party. Japanese, Australian, Canadian, Norwegian and Swedish MPs are also part of IPAC.
