Manipur political crisis will be resolved in next 2-3 days: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after the Rajya Sabha election, many people (MLAs) were disqualified by the speaker of the Manipur legislative assembly but a good result will come up in next two to three days.

Assam minister and BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the political crisis in the Manipur government will be resolved in next two-three days in the spirit of NDA and NEDA’s principles.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there is nothing to worry and the situation now under control.

“The situation is more or less under control. I will visit Manipur again tomorrow. We are consulting with all our MLAs and things will be resolved nicely. There is nothing to worry about,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

“Things are very much under control and there is nothing to worry. We will resolve the issue in the next two or three days in the spirit of NEDA (North-East Democratic Alliance) and NDA (National Democratic Alliance) principles,” the NEDA convener told a press conference here.

The BJP-led government in Manipur plunged into crisis three BJP MLAs had resigned from the party and four National People’s Party (NPP) ministers of the coalition government, one Trinamool Congress MLA and lone Independent legislator withdrew support to the Biren Singh government on June 17.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after the Rajya Sabha election, many people (MLAs) were disqualified by the speaker of the Manipur legislative assembly but a good result will come up in next two to three days.

“The architecture may be little different, but we will continue it with the spirit of NEDA and NDA. All discussions are taking place in a positive manner and we are speaking to each other,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Sarma further said that by-elections will have to be held in Manipur as the speaker’s decision on disqualification is final and can’t be revoked.

Following the political crisis in Manipur, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had recently visited Manipur.

Conrad Sangma and Himanta Sarma first met Biren Singh and then held talks with the Manipur National People’s Party legislators to iron out the differences, sources in the NPP and the BJP said.
