14,933 new cases of coronavirus in India take tally past 4.4 lakh

A spike of 14,933 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in a day took India’s case tally to 4,40,215 on Tuesday. The death toll due to Covid-19 in India crossed the 14,000-mark after 312 fatalities were reported.

According to updated data by the Union Health Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, positive cases in India stand at 4,40,215 on Tuesday. These total cases include 1,78,014 active cases, while 2,48,190 have been cured/discharged/migrated.

On Monday, coronavirus cases in India climbed to 4,25,282 after the country reported 14,821 fresh infections in 24 hours. India’s death toll had surged by 445, which took the number of people who have succumbed to the virus to 13,699.

With 1,35,796 confirmed cases, Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state so far in the country. Maharashtra’s count includes 61,807 active, 67,706 cured, discharged patients while 6,283 deaths have been reported due to the infection so far.

Delh’s confirmed coronavirus cases reached 62,655 on Tuesday morning. Delhi has reported 2,233 deaths due to the infection so far.
Tamil Nadu has reported 62,087 cases so far with toll increased to 794.

The health ministry said that as a concerted effort to expand the laboratory and testing infrastructure, the number of government labs has been increased to 722 and the number of private labs to 259. There are a total of 981 laboratories now.
