Tamil Nadu sees record single day spike with over 3000 cases, total tally at 70,977

Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 3,509 novel coronavirus, taking the state tally to 70,977 cases.

Out of the total cases, Chennai reported 1,834 cases and five other districts reported more than 100 cases on Thursday. The five districts are Madurai (203), Chengelpet (191), Thiruvallur (170), Vellore (168), Ramanathapuram (140).

At least 45 people have died due to coronavirus in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. With this, Tamil Nadu reported 911 coronavirus-related deaths so far.

Meanwhile, 2,236 people have recovered and have been discharged on Thursday.

Age-wise distribution shows that people between the age group of 13-60 are the most affected with a total of 59,073 people in this age group being tested positive for Covid-19. Till now, 3,481 children below the age of 12 have been tested positive for the new coronavirus.

A total of 8,423 people above the age of 60 have tested positive for the Covid-19 so far in the state.

“Covid-19 testing is done in 47 government and 41 private labs all over Tamil Nadu. 70,977 persons have tested positive till date. 9,37,412 samples were tested negative. Testing of 585 samples are under process,” a press statement by the state government read.

The report stated that till June 24, a total of 2,61,724 people entered Tamil Nadu via various routes. Out of 2,61,724 people who entered state, a total of 2,887 people have tested positive for the deadly new coronavirus.
