A YRS Congress Party leader, close to Andhra Pradesh’s Information Minister Perni Nani, was murdered on Monday by two assailants in the Machlipatanam area of Krishna district.

It is alleged that the YSRCP leader M Bhaskar Rao was stabbed with a cyanide-laced knife which led to his immediate death.

Rao was the former chairman of the Machilipatanam market yard and a close aide to minister Nani.

The incident was captured in CCTV footage and the police believe old rivalry is the reason behind the murder.

Meanwhile, ruling YSRCP suspects the role of a former local councillor from the opposition Telugu Desam Party.

Speaking about the incident, State Minister and Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani said, “They have got him murdered as they couldn’t face us politically. This is definitely a political murder”.

He added that Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has inquired about the incident from the police.

In another incident, a member of YSARCP’s social media wing was allegedly attacked by a suspected TDP supporter in Guntur district. This, after an opposition party activist Vikram was murdered in the same district on Sunday.
