The return journey of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra at Puri began on Wednesday.

As the symphony of gongs, blowing of conch shells and beating of cymbals filled the air, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra started their journet on their chariots from Gundicha Temple at temple city Puri on Wednesday.

The sweeping ritual ‘Cherapahara’ was performed by Puri Maharaj Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb.

After spending a week inside the Gundicha temple, the Holy Trinity will return to the Lions’ Gate of Srimandir on the occasion of Bahuda Yatra.

The three chariots had taken the ‘Dakshini Moda’ on Sunday (June 28).

After reaching Srimandir, the three chariots will be outside Singhadwara for rituals over the next three days. Suna Besha and Adhara Pana will be performed followed by the Niladri Bije the concluding part of the rituals of the Bahuda Yatra.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,569 Covid-19 samples were collected last week from Puri town. Out of these, 12 tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, the health department said.

All the confirmed cases have been shifted to the Covid-dedicated hospitals.
