android: Android users may soon get this new WhatsApp shortcut
WhatsApp users on the Android platform may soon get a new group shortcut. As per a report by WABetaInfo, the Facebook-owned platform is working on a shortcut that will allow you to create a group with specific content. According to the report, few Android users have received the new shortcut with the recent beta update. The beta update brings the version of the app up to 2.22.10.4.
As per the screenshot shared in the report, the update brings a new ‘Create Group’ shortcut inside the Contact Info section. The report suggests that once you tap on the shortcut, the platform will automatically select the contact to a new group. This does not mean that the group will be created with just two users. Once you select the user, you will have the option to select other participants to the group before it’s created.
As mentioned earlier, the feature is part of the beta update and not available to all users. It is expected that the company may roll out the feature with the upcoming stable updates.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a new feature that will make it easier for you to message unsaved contacts. Currently when you tap on a phone number in the chat bubble, WhatsApp takes you directly to your default dialer app. With the coming updates, the platform may show you more options after tapping on a phone number.
According to the screenshots shared in the report, WhatsApp shows Android users new options such as Add to contacts and Dial after the beta update. The report further reveals that if the phone number you have tapped on is available on WhatsApp, the platform will also provide you an option to begin a chat with the contact. The other two options always show up when the phone number isn’t available on WhatsApp.
