PATNA: Bihar police with the help of Uttar Pradesh’s anti-terrorism squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested a lawyer in Lucknow while probing the network of a terror module linked with PFI and SDPI involved in anti-national activities at Patna’s Phulwarisharif area, the police officials said.
The arrested accused has been identified as Nuruddin Jangi alias Advocate Nuruddin, native of Urdu Bazaar, Sher Mohammed Gali in Darbhanga. He fled from Patna after he was named accused in the FIR lodged with the Phulwarisharif police station on Thursday under relevant charges of conspiring and attempting to create religious animosity, attempting to wage war and intent to cause riot.

The lawyer, who is an active member of Popular Front of India (PFI), was arrested from near Mawaiyya metro station under Alambagh police station area in Lucknow on Saturday at 4.05pm. A team was formed under Bihar’s inspector of police Roshan Singh for the arrest Nurrudin from the neighboring state.
Phulwarisharif ASP Manish Kumar Sinha said Nuruddin is an active member of the extremist outfit PFI and native of Darbhanga. “He plays an important role to connect with the people of Darbhanga and radicalize them. He attended all the meetings of PFI. The accused will be brought back to Patna on transit remand for further investigation in the case. After the terror module was busted, various SITs have been formed to campaign in Bihar’s districts as well as in neighboring states to arrest the members involved in anti-national activities. Fearing arrest he escaped from Patna, Nuruddin halted at Musafir Khana in Charbagh, Lucknow,” he told the media persons.

He added: “It is the fourth arrest in the case linked to terror module and their plot to establish Islamic government in the country, pread hatred between communities, radicalizing one community against others and preparation for waging war.”
Patna SSP Manavjit Singh Dhillon said the arrested accused told in preliminary interrogation that he came in contact with PFI Darbhanga’s district president Sanaullah in the year 2015 and joined PFI and SDPI and has been an active member of PFI since that time. “Nuruddin contested the state assembly elections from Darbhanga seat in the year 2020 under the banner of SDPI and got around 600 votes. He acquired LLB degree in the year 2017 from CN Law College, Darbhanga. He advocated for legal action in courts from Bihar to Delhi to get the former members of banned group SIMI, PFI and SDPI released,” he said.
Earlier, the Patna police arrested Athar Parvez, allegedly a former member of the now banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Mohammed Jalaluddin, a retired sub-inspector of the Jharkhand Police and Arman Malik from Phulwari Sharif area of Patna on Wednesday.
The arrested trio have been taken on remand for further interrogation in the eight-page document – ‘India 2047- Towards rule of Islam in India’. Patna police seek 48-hours remand from the court on Saturday.
Police added they used to train the locals under the garb of martial arts training. Police has reportedly recovered CCTV footage of the same.
