Zoi Sadowski Synnott created history by winning a gold medal at the ongoing Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Her women’s slopestyle title win gave New Zealand its first-ever Winter Olympics gold medal. The 20-year-old put in a remarkable final run to claim the medal, snatching victory from the biggest competition of her career, Team USA’s Julia Marino, who won a silver medal at the event in the 2022 Winter Olympics. Australia’s Tess Coady settled for bronze. The 20-year-old was unflappable, storming some huge jumps to finish in style. Pictures of the athlete competing at the Beijing Olympics have gone viral on social media. Synnott also took to Instagram and shared a photo from the winning moment and wrote in her caption, “Dream come true.” It certainly is for the New Zealander. The jaw-dropping final run rewarded her with a reportedly 92.88 score, over five points clear of Marino’s best attempt. Interestingly, this is not the first time that Synnott created a memorable history. Four years ago, she won bronze in the big air event at the PyeongChang Games, which made her NZ’s youngest ever female medallist. She was only 16, at the time.
