Shubman Gill revealed a hilarious story about Rishabh Pant during the Chennai Test match against Bangladesh. The centurion on Day 3, Gill said in the press conference that he asked Rishabh Pant to calm down when the latter constantly came to him to celebrate the boundaries and the sixes.

Shubman and Pant shared a 167-run stand in India’s second innings vs Bangladesh. Both scored centuries, hitting a total of 23 fours and 8 sixes between them. During the stand, Pant could be seen coming to Shubman and tapping their bats. Shubman revealed that he asked Pant not to do that as he was playing with an old bat – from the England Test series.

Shubman revealed that he thought that his bat was at the risk of breaking as Pant would continue to tap till the middle portion of the bat was hit.

The incident had the entire press in splits during the conference on Saturday, 21 September.

“I’m playing with a bat that I played against England. So my bat is quite old, actually, and he was hitting my bat so hard. I was telling him, you know, I’m trying to save my bat, and if he didn’t middle that if he didn’t middle it while in the middle, he would say no, let’s do it again, bro, calm down,” Shubman said.

The batter continued his sensational run in the No.3 position, hitting a terrific hundred. Shubman said that he took a lot of confidence from the England series where he scored 452 runs from 5 matches. Before that, Shubman had a lean start to his No.3 career, having failed to score a fifty in 12 innings before that series.

“I think the series that I had against England gave me a lot of confidence and I felt it was a long time coming for me especially batting at that position and having got out the way I got out in the first innings, I was obviously very disappointed. But as a batsman, you can’t do anything about it. But it further motivated me to be able to spend a lot of time on the crease and put extra value on my wicket,” Shubman Gill concluded.

At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh need 357 runs to win the first Test match with 6 wickets in hand.
