KALYAN: A 17-year-old student who had taken more than Rs 1 lakh from his home without informing his parents to buy an iPhone committed suicide after his father found out about the missing money and scolded him.
The boy, Rajvardhan Yadav, hails from UP’s Gajipur, but was staying with his uncle in Mira Road to finish his schooling. Rajvardhan’s father is a farmer by profession and stays with his two daughters and wife. The suicide came to light when passersby noticed a youth hanging from a tree near Kalyan railway tracks and informed police. On checking the boy’s pockets, police found an iPhone and other documents through which they identified Rajvardhan and contacted his uncle. His body has been sent for autopsy.
Police learnt that Rajvardhan, who recently passed HSC exam with 45% marks, had gone to visit his father. “While returning, Rajvardhan stole over Rs 1 lakh from his house which his father had saved for the elder daughter’s marriage, and bought an iPhone with the money,” said Ashok Honmane, police inspector, Mahatma Phule police station. When his father realised the money was missing, he called Rajvardhan, chided him and asked him to return to UP. Rajvardhan was planning to leave for UP, but changed his mind and took the drastic step.
