Coronavirus patient travels from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram by air, booked for hiding infection detail

The patient first reached Chennai on June 10 from Qatar and was found to be infected by coronavirus. He got himself from a hospital and travelled to Thiruvananthapuram without informing authorities.

The Thiruvananthapuram city police have registered a case against a Covid-19 positive patient for hiding details about his infection after returning to Kerala from Tamil Nadu. The 54-year-old patient, a native of Thiruvananthapuram has been booked under the Epidemic Diseases Ordinance 2020.

According to Thiruvananthapuram Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyaya (IGP), the patient first reached Chennai on June 10 from Qatar. On June 12, he tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to the Chengalpett Medical College. The patient got discharged from the hospital before being completely cured of Covid-19.

On June 21, the patient took a flight from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram. He went to stay at his family residence in Thiruvananthapuram city. Later the patient revealed details about his coronavirus status when the local police and health officials conducted a further enquiry. On June 22, he was taken to the hospital and tested coronavirus positive. The patient, at present, is being treated at the Gopikrishnan Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that 141 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the state. While 79 people came from abroad, 52 were from other states and nine were infected through local contacts.
