Maruti Suzuki has upgraded its premium SUV, the Grand Vitara, with the inclusion of Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS). The company said that the strong hybrid trims of the SUV will get this pedestrian safety feature.
With this update, the prices of the said variants have been hiked by Rs 4,000 on the existing ex-showroom prices.
What is AVAS?
The AVAS technology has been developed to enhance the safety of both drivers and pedestrians by providing timely alerts about the presence of a vehicle. The mechanism operates by emitting a subtle alert sound, audible within a range of up to five feet from the vehicle.
This feature serves as an effective warning for pedestrians and nearby drivers, notifying them of the vehicle’s presence. The AVAS technology can thus save lives on road and becomes a crucial feature for electric/plug-in electric vehicles as they usually emit little to no noise while moving.
What are the new prices?
While the prices for the mild hybrid trims of the SUVs will remain unchanged, the strong hybrid trims, Zeta+ and Alpha+, have gotten dearer by Rs 4,000 now. Following the price hike, the former costs Rs 18.29 lakh while the flagship Alpha+ variant will be offered at Rs 19.79 lakh, all prices ex-showroom.
The top-spec trims draw their power from a 1.5-litre, petrol strong hybrid mill, that comes mated solely to e-CVT for both trims. It generates 114 hp and 141 Nm of peak torque.
The Grand Vitara is essentially a technical cousin of Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder and rivals the likes of Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq among others.
