Matsyasana – How to perform

Sit and straighten your legs outstretched in front of your body. Bend backward, and press your forearms on the mat as you rest the crown of your head on the floor. Arch your back and place both of your palms on the tops of your thighs or rest them on the floor. Expand your chest toward the ceiling. In this posture hold for 10 breaths to count.

Starting position for Ardha Matsyasana:

Sit in Padmasana, Ardhpadmasana, or Sukhasana, keeping the spine erect, shoulders and head firm yet relaxed.  Matsyasana, maintain focus on the purpose of the Asana while maintaining body awareness.

By doing Kapalbhati in the final position of this asana you can overcome respiratory ailments like asthma, cough etc. Neck muscles become strong and relieves from the neck pain.
