NEW DELHI: A non-local was shot dead and another injured in a terrorist attack in Srinagar on Wednesday, officials said. The terrorists targeted workers from Punjab in the Habba Kadal area of Srinagar, resulting in the death of the man, identified as Amritpal Singh, a resident of Amritsar.
Singh fell victim to the terrorists’ brutality when he was shot at point-blank range with an AK rifle in the Shalla Kadal locality of Habba Kadal at approximately 7 pm. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Another non-local worker, identified as 25-year-old Rohit from Amritsar, sustained injuries during the attack. Rohit was hit in the abdomen and is currently receiving treatment at SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
Local authorities have promptly responded to the incident, with the police taking cognizance and cordoning off the area to initiate efforts to track down the assailants.
This marks the first terrorist attack on a non-local individual in Kashmir this year. Notably, the region witnessed several attacks on non-local workers last year, particularly in Anantnag and Shopian districts.
