Rishabh Pant reveals 'great off-field bond' with Shubman GIll after 1st Test win

Star India batter Rishabh Pant revealed his great off-field bond with Shubman Gill as the reason behind their successful partnership in the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh. India won the 1st Test match against Bangladesh in a dominating fashion by 280 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pant and Gill’s partnership was crucial in India winning the match and extending their winning streak of 12 victories against the neighbouring country. Interestingly, it was the first time that Gill and Pant batted together and went onto stitch a 167-run stand with both of them notching up their respective hundreds during India’s 2nd innings in Chennai.

“I think one thing that I understood over a period of time is that when you have a great relationship outside the field or off the field, it really helps to bat with that guy. I think when you have a great bond outside the field, you understand how that other person is thinking. How the game is moving around, and we were just having fun, having fun chats. Talking about the game very little bit, but at the end of the day we knew what we really wanted to do. We were just trying to be ourselves and relax and just wanted to stitch a great partnership,” Pant told in a video posted by the BCCI on their social media.

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill’s rock-solid stand

Rishabh Pant (109) and Gill (119*) led India’s domination in the 2nd innings after the fall of early wickets. They propelled India to put Bangladesh into a massive chase of 515 runs. Rishabh made a spectacular return to Test cricket and scored a comeback hundred. He equalled MS Dhoni’s record for most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper in India, i.e. 6.

“There was fire inside me”

Rishabh said that he was very nervous on his return to Test cricket and was happy to pull off a great comeback.

“I mean I was very nervous. I was very jittery. There was a fire inside me that I wanted to make it happen and eventually I did it. I am happy but not like thinking too much about it, but still happy. After what I did yesterday.”

Pant also talked about hilariously helping out the Bangladesh team to set the field and said that he enjoyed it.

“I think my understanding of the game is that cricket should improve wherever you play. So, I was just trying to help the other team that ‘you can set a fielder here’ and it was amazing actually, I really enjoyed it.”
