Students, tourists stranded in Assam during lockdown return to Bangladesh

After they were stranded in Assam owing to the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, 33 residents of Bangladesh have now returned to their country. The Bangladeshi nationals returned to Bangladesh through Sutarkandi International Border point in Assam’s Karimganj district on Thursday.
According to the reports, out of the 33 people, 22 are students at NIT in Silchar and the remaining 11 were either tourists or pilgrims.
The Bangladeshi nationals were screened and subjected to other examinations by district health officials before they were transported to the care of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, a top official in the Karimganj district administration said.
Babita Bhattacharya – a Bangladeshi student who was staying at NIT, Silchar guest house during the Covid-19 lockdown said was happy to meet her parents after six months.
Earlier, 124 Indians who were stranded in Bangladesh due to the lockdown came back to India through the Sutarkandi International Border point on May 28 at the same time as 80 Bangladeshi nationals returned to their country.
