World Cup-winning India off-spinner R Ashwin had a session at the nets at a nearby training facility in Chennai following the relaxation in the lockdown guidelines in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

R Ashwin took to social media to share a clip of him bowling at the nets. “One step at a time!!! Baby steps,” Ashwin captioned his post.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday announced the extension of lockdown until May 31 in the country but also clarified on relaxation on restrictions on usage of sports complexes and stadiums.

“Sports complexes and stadia will be permitted to open. However, spectators will not be allowed,” MHA said.

Virat Kohli does some powerlifting

Meanwhile, India captain Virat Kohli was seen involved in an intense session of weight lifting at his residence on Wednesday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it will not rush into a decision on resuming the sport and will wait for further guidelines before organising a skill-based training camp for contracted players.

“Taking into the account the restrictions on air travel and movement of people till May 31, the BCCI will wait further before organizing a skill-based training camp for its contracted players,” the apex body said in a release.

Athletes across the globe had been restricted to indoor training due to the novel coronavirus that had a massive impact on the global sporting calendar. In India, the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) missed its April-May deadline as the BCCI suspended the T20 league until ‘further notice’.

While most of the members of India cricket team have been trying to keep themselves fit, a few like Mohammed Shami have been able to use training facilities at their residences.

Meanwhile, top sprinter Dutee Chand has begun outdoor training at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

After two months, I am training outdoors and it is a very nice feeling to experience the air while running on the track. For a track athlete, there is no better feeling than this. At the same time I am also experiencing an unusual feeling,” Dutee told PTI explaining the eeriness of the empty stands at the stadium.
